A sewer drain blockage can cause all kinds of problems in your home or business. It usually cannot be fixed by anyone but a certified plumber. To find out the extent of the damage caused by a sewer line problem, call Mann Plumbing. We will be happy to come out and diagnose the issue.

Causes of Sewer Drain Failure

● Tree Roots: Tree roots will try to grow towards water. This means any small crack in your sewer line will attract tree roots. These roots will then work their way into the pipe. Mann Plumbing will use a rotary cable machine with root cutting tools to cut the roots to remove the blockage.

● Sudden Changes in Temperature: If you have recently experienced a major weather event near your home or business that changed the ground temperature, your pipes may have shifted. If it causes a problem, chances are the shift disconnected the pipe or it burst.

● Wear and Tear: As time goes on, your pipes will begin to deteriorate. This could be caused solely by age. In some cases, people will use chemical drain cleaners to unclog drains, but these chemicals speed the deterioration of pipes.

Signs of a Sewer Drain Problem

● Bad Odor: If you are smelling sewage either in your home or business or outside near the sewer drain, you may have a leak or burst. It could also be a less serious, but still vital to fix, issue such as a broken seal.

● Clogged Toilet or Sink: A clogged toilet or sink could simply mean the drain is clogged, but if the clog is affecting multiple drains, it is most likely a sewer drain problem. You can try plunging to fix the problem. However, if that does not work, you will have to call a plumber.

● Greener Grass: If you have a sewage leak, you may notice patches of grass where it is greener than the rest of the lawn. In addition to color, you may also notice wet spots or indentations in the grass.

● Mold: Mold may begin to grow inside the walls if you have a leak. Over time, you may begin to see it seeping through the wall. Usually, you will smell it before you see it. Keep an eye out for white residue on the wall near the pipe.

● Cracks in the Foundation: If a leak is left untreated for a long time, it may eventually lead to cracks in the foundation. This only occurs in extreme cases, but it is something to watch out for. These cracks will greatly weaken the stability of your home or business.
